Rx:

A Conscious Look at your Beauty Routine.

by Leah Diveney aka @coveting.beauty

Ever since I started getting really into in skincare, I began taking a less is more approach to my makeup and beauty routine.

Rewind three years ago and my makeup bag was bursting at the seams. Six drawers and countless acrylic storage bins on my vanity still wasn't enough to keep my stash organized.

Nowadays, I'll usually avoid makeup altogether, and when I do choose to wear it I go minimal.

I'm talking a slick of mascara, a BB cream or foundation, concealer when and where I need it, and if I'm feeling fancy, some blush and a subtle highlight.

I'm always looking for ways to minimize the amount I spend and the number of products I hoard.

Here are 3 Quick tips for savvy shopping:

1.Check the Expiration Date and Reviews

I invest my money wisely on products that I know work for me and I stick with them until they are used up. It is a total waste if you have multiple products in your stash that expire before you even get around to using them.

If a new product does launch and takes my fancy, I'll always be sure I do my research. I'll spend countless hours searching hashtags, reading reviews from online beauty gurus or checking sites like Influenster to see what people think before I take the plunge. While not every review might pertain to me (we all have different experiences), at least I get a better picture of what to expect. Chances are, if most people say the foundation is too greasy… it probably is.

2. Sneak a Sample

I will always to head to the nearest store and ask for a sample to test before I commit. Let's be honest, there's no sense in spending hundreds of dollars trying to achieve perfect skin if you're then going to load it with makeup that just doesn't work well.

3. Find Multi-Purpose Products

Something I take much more seriously now are the tools I use to apply my makeup. MakeupDrop is a fantastic multi-use tool. I love applying masks and serums with this, as well as foundation. I also enjoy leaving mine in the freezer for a few hours and using it to help de-puff and cool my eyes in the morning.
